AVALON PARK AND PRESERVE | It Was A-Maze-Ing

We started off the day by heading to an ice skating rink in Kings Park called Superior Ice Rink. Our goal was to learn how to skate backwards… and well we succeeded at a slow backwards shimmy. But! We weren’t disheartened because we only had about 15 total minutes practice as there were many small children on the ice and we had to be cautious. So we will be back to try again.

After about and hour and a half of skate, open session was over and it was time for us to head out. We drove on over to Avalon Park and Preserve which all in all is not a very large park but for the cold Saturday afternoon it was perfect. As we pulled up we found street parking fairly easily and bundled ourselves up.

There was a large cluster of ducks and geese on the frozen pond. The park has a wooden boardwalk which was well maintained. We had ourselves a good little laugh when we got the labyrinth. It was a stone path on the ground that looped round and round till it reached the center. After the labyrinth we walked around to see what else the park had to offer. We noticed that even in the middle of the winter a large number of the small trees and bushes still had vibrant green leaves, which was a nice change of the usual grey and browns we see. It was beautiful!
